I seem to do this about once every six months. I have been in a romance reading slum. Not much has knocked my socks off. Loved Spymaster's Lady, have been trying to read Colleen Gleason's book because it got so many raves--can't get in to it. BUT, I have found one. May I start it was
OMG THE HEROINE IS A WHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had never read a book by Loretta Chase, although she is usually mentioned in the same breath as the goddess LK. But Your Scandalous Ways was awesome. Francesca the heroine is a grand courtesan on the European continent. The whole book takes place in Venice. I loved the hero James, I loved the heroine. I loved everything about this. /gushing. Seriously, this book was about two adults. Francesca truly was a courtesan, not someone who had the reputation but was really a virgin (this was published after all by Avon, home of the 30 year old virgin widow). James was a spy, but he was tired and worn out. All he really wanted to do was go back to England and marry some nice innocent girl. The reason for his one last mission made sense. The conflict between Francesca and James was valid. He was going to have to betray her for God and country, not to mention she wasn't the nice innocent girl he wanted to fall for. And the last thing Franscesca wanted was to fall for the penniless younger son of a nobleman.
Anyway, go read Your Scandalous Ways. It was awesome.
